So here I am thinking, and wanting, and desiring to play another character as a player rather than a GM.

So I started thinking: I like playing faces. They are interesting, they are fun, and they tend to not be combat oriented. I love them!
Then I thought: Yakuza. They are scary motherfuckers.
Then I said to myself (Admittedly, after watching an episode of Permanent Mark): Yakuza Tattoo Artist.

So that should be my next character.... a Yakuza Tattoo Artist. Hoorah.

Unknown for now. Possibly, or he might have reached that old fogey Yakuza status where he can retire...... Working on his story as we speak.

Awesome idea Zach. Suggestion: Gary posted a run for 1-2 players for a run that might include wetwork. I didn't reply to it because honestly, I don't have a good runner to go. This guy might be perfect for that run.

I haven't had a chance to look at the emailed copy (have to look at it at work because of the newer version of office), but from looking above, I see a couple things to look at. First, does he really only speak Japanese? This is perfectly acceptable, of course, but it may make working with a team tricky. Second, at least on the forum version, you are showing an Essence rating 6 with cyberware. Otherwise, he looks badass!

He has a Knowsoft Link and a chipjack, and a English Linguasoft.... and yes it says 6 but it should be one. Like I said, that was the skeleton..... He's still got a couple edits. But yeah, he speaks Japanese unless he is wearing the Linguasoft in his chipjack.

Oh yeah, I missed that (I didn't look through the gear section because that usually doesn't catch my initial interest). I look forward to seeing this one in action. What kind of work will he be trying to find (assuming he actively looks for work)?

Whatever strikes his fancy, or anything with the potential to glean information for the Yakuza..... I've decided he won't hide his affiliation from the teams or anything. He'll most likely just not say much about it at all. He is officially retired, but even retired Yakuza enjoy some fringe benefits and none ever -fully- stop working for them. So he's pretty much on his own, but with the respect of the local Yakuza and a few contacts within their ranks.

Standard conversation should go....

Person A: "You;re Yakuza?"

Akki: "All must chose their side
My Affiliation is
Not of consequence"

Person A: "Is that a Haiku?"

Akki: "Words are all lacking
Poetry is preferred for

yup... pretty standard. He speaks in Haiku's.

Unless it is Rocket or Ace (Japanese), my first character to work with Akki (assuming they build any level of friendship), will try to give him the street name, Cookie (short for Fortune Cookie).

I'm more thinking about down the road when he's been on a dozen runs and somebody that knows him really well see's him get shot and he speaks outside of a haiku. I imagine the color draining from their face and going "oh..... it's ~That~ kind of serious......"

LOL. Well, I can tell you for a fact, Mercury will be avoiding your company where possible. Dark Secret>Son of a high ranking Yakuza Boss. Mercury is something of a runaway from the family but that doesn't mean other families don't want to get their hands on him.

I have a feeling if Akki found out... he'd be a dead guy.

One of them would be (my money is on Mercury - insane with the sniper skills)

I dunno......... Akki is pretty sneaky. But Mercury would probably have an edge since Akki is a Tattoo Artist/Face first and a Hitman second.

Not to mention the fact that Mercury isn't wanted for execution purposes. He is Yakuza family who stepped off the radar for personal reasons, not for betrayal reasons. Killing him might earn someone free tattoo removals with a rake.

With the various Yakuza families though, it's quite possible capturing him would net you some big honor. As long as the family you worked for wasn't friendly with his. Of course, the problem with getting to Mercury is that you've gotta get past his wife. Ukrainian with a temper.
