About Boyo

Phillip Dens Coyo was born in Huston Texas, and was reported to have died there at age sixteen in a drinking and driving accident. There are a few traces in the Matrix that suggests that this SIN may have been used as long ago as 2049, but none are completely conclusive. By the time Boyo was 20 (2046), he was actively involved in a number of anti-corporate activities against a number of then fledgling mega-corporations. He was contacted in the summer of 2050 by an agency in the US government to negotiate terms between a number of his (then believed to be terrorists and mercenary) comrades, with the intent on sharing information and aligning their activities towards government interests. This was relatively profitable to Boyo, who by then realized that his real talents were in the operative agent business.

By 2055, shortly after obtaining his new Alex Underwood SIN (part of a work agreement with his agency friends), he moved to Seattle to begin a personal career working the legendary talent of the metroplex. At this point, Boyo is involved with about twenty runners, though admittedly, only two are of any significance in the Seattle shadows (the Swing Kid, and a samurai named Hades). Boyo has several hotwired thugs in his personal employ, as well as a decker named Wizzy.

Among his personal contacts, he works with several Johnsons out of Renraku, the Seattle Mafia, Mitsuhama, and he still keeps up with a number of ex-Fuchi ops directors. If he were on a character sheet, then he could brag about forty useful contacts from corporate to government (he would never brag of this of course).

Boyo currently resides in the Solavitem Estates (really nice condos), and has a lifestyle that costs him about 20K per month. His personal assets amount to nearly a half-million nuyen, which is hardly rich, but enough to keep up the lifestyle, stay friendly with contacts and the protection rackets (like Lonestar), and to maintain a handful of cronies.

As to running, Boyo will take just about any sort of run opportunity, though he never hires out for decking work, choosing to use Wizzy (and sometimes the Swing Kid – his one exception) when these come up. He currently is a bit heavy in the wizarding side of contacts, so he likes to use this to leverage runs where mages and shamans may be of use.

When he needs to get a hold of any of his contacts, he arranges for Wizzy to drop a signal out to his independent contractors with a detailed time to call a very specific (new each time) number. The runner calls at that time, and they discuss the basics. As a general rule, Boyo works out an arrangement for 14% of a given Johnson’s budget (between he and the Johnson prior to negotiations), with an additional 10% of any difference in negotiations that the runner/team makes (this part to be paid by the runner).

Boyo is very friendly, but has been known to take care of internal problems in very harsh manners, but then again, he has been rumored to go after a couple of Johnsons for fragging some of his contractors. After all, screwing his crew is screwing him. Basically, he is not one to put up with anything that ends up with a bad business deal.

Boyo has contacts that can provide a range of information for runners (at a cost, of course), but he doesn’t deal in goods (at all). Information, however, he likes, and is often very willing to buy. He brags that he can make a connection with just about anyone for a price, but that price is often higher than logic would suggest. For some unknown reason, Boyo does not like elves, though he will usually not let that get in the way of business. It doesn’t seem to be for any meta-racism beyond some unknown incident in the past. This prejudice is usually limited to open distrust, racial slurs, and often, outride avoidance. Boyo does like money a lot more than he hates elves though, so it usually doesn’t affect business. None of his current contractors are elven.

Joyride – Boyo contacted Joyride for the first time about six months ago when one of his runners (Magie3) took a bullet in an undisclosed business deal that went bad. Apparently, Boyo had Joyride in his rolodex for a while, unbeknownst to the upstart mage, and was pleased to find him open for business. Since their initial work, Boyo has used Joyride for three runs, only one of which was with a team doing an actual run (the other two were also bullet jobs). Joyride knocked out the run with flying marks, and has been elevated to contractor status as of December of 2059. Both men seem very intrigued looking towards the future.
